About This Item

Gent:: Universiteit Gent / The Commission of the European Community, , (1992). First edition -. Fine in glossy illustrated wrappers.. First edition, a trade paperback original. The Namib Desert, which extends for 1200 miles along the Atlantic coast of Southern Africa, may be the oldest desert in the world, arid for 55-80 million years, and home to plants found no where else. This book focuses on two groups of Topnaar who live there - in the Kuseb area and in Sesfontein, areas which are quite distant from each other and so have different plants for use. Illustrated with black and white drawings and color photographs. While the book is written in English, sections have been translated into Afrikaans and Nama to make the information more accessible. Includes bibliography and index of scientific and vernacular names. Errata slip laid in. 145 pp. plus several blank pages for notes.
