About This Item

Haarlem Netherlands: Tjeenk Willink, 1958. Paperback. Very Good. Very Good. This is the only multi-language example of a style of typography invented by this Dutch professor and amateur astronomer, that he called Hoodfdletters, Tweeling- en Meerlingdruk, in other words, "Capital, twin and multiprint". Printed in bold sans-serif typeface with minimal space between the lines, but there is plenty of space when the appropriate language screen is laid atop the text. The text is printed very tight in all caps in blocks with english, then french, spanish and german. Put on the language screen and you can read only the chosen langugage. Van den Bergh thought that books are too expensive for students and that with his system 60 -70 % less paper could be used for books. Softcover with four celluloid screens all laid into the publisher's original matching box. Very unique and rare book, OCLC notes nine holdings--two in Germany and seven in the Netherlands, but none in the U.S. Ships from Hawaii.
