About This Item
New York: Oxford University Press, 1979. First Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. FIRST PRINTING of First USA Edition. WITH loose postal card SIGNED by the ENTIRE TEAM. Original orange cloth with gilt lettering spine. The book is in fine condition with clean covers, no fading, no rubbing, no previous owner marks, no foxing, tight binding. The dust jacket is near fine with a little crinkling at top edge of spine, tiny 5mm tear lower spine corner, clean, no chips, no fading to spine which is uncommon for this jacket, complete and not clipped, small numbers & date penned to upper corner of front flap. The team-signed card is large format 147mm tall x 210mm, blank on one side, signed by the team on the other side with Austrian stamp canceled with an Everest image and framed in red. The card appears to have been issued prior to the expedition's departure to Nepal since the cancel is dated March 1, 1978. The card is in fine condition. It is signed by Peter Habeler, Reinhold Messner, Wofgang Nairz, Oswald Olz, R. Magrelter, Hanns Schell, RObert Schauer, Jost Knoll, Horst Bergmann, Franz Oppurg, and Helmut Hagner. All signatures are strong and clear. They are original hand-signed signatures (not printed). Items signed by the entire team are quite uncommon. The members signed a card shown in the book on page 58 (different from the card included with this book) that was mailed from Nepal, but most of those almost always lack one or two team member signatures. The book measures 235mm tall x 154mm, and has 254 pages, 37 color & 42 b/w photos, 6 maps, historical lists. PHOTOS ARE OF THE ACTUAL BOOK BEING OFFERED.
