Small 4to. Later full polished brown calf, front cover ruled in gilt with gilt devices in the four corners. Fine. No other signatures or bookplates. Signed and inscribed by Welles on flyleaf, with Welles' self portrait and a hand with pen within a heart: "Fletcher Markle is the reason for his new binding-not the book itself; it goes back to him with the dearest love of Orson Welles / Christmas 57-58." Fletcher Markle (1921-1991), born March 27, 1921, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; died May 23, 1991; director, producer, actor and writer; was an uncredited writer on the screenplay for Welles' film "The Lady from Shanghai" 1947; he directed and produced for Orson Welles' Mercury Theatre in 1946.

Woodstock: The Todd Press, 1934. Grey tweedy boards to the black leather or leatherlike binding. The titles in silver gilt to the spine and front leather binding. The binding is tight. Red and black decorative end papers (Billboards Etc)The edges are tinted a pale blue and are faded a little at the top and bottom.The previous careful owners small plate of ownership (3/8" by 1 1/4") is pasted to the front inside epp. Easily covered with your bookplate or perhaps removed.. First Edition. 1/4 Back Leatherlike Cover. Very Good Plus/None Given. Illus. by Assumed to be By Orson Welles. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
