Small 4to. Later full polished brown calf, front cover ruled in gilt with gilt devices in the four corners. Fine. No other signatures or bookplates. Signed and inscribed by Welles on flyleaf, with Welles' self portrait and a hand with pen within a heart: "Fletcher Markle is the reason for his new binding-not the book itself; it goes back to him with the dearest love of Orson Welles / Christmas 57-58." Fletcher Markle (1921-1991), born March 27, 1921, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; died May 23, 1991; director, producer, actor and writer; was an uncredited writer on the screenplay for Welles' film "The Lady from Shanghai" 1947; he directed and produced for Orson Welles' Mercury Theatre in 1946.
