Shelf wear to marbled paper on bottom edges. Moderate rubbing at joints, foot and crown. Top edge bright gilt, fore edge deckled pages. Binding is tight, sturdy and square. Previous owner's name boldly inscribed on first free endpaper. Moderate underlining and marginalia on quite a few pages. Loss to page edge at page 206, not affecting text. 382 pp. including index. Illustrated with line drawings. 12mo, 5 1/2 x 8 inches tall Joseph Le Conte was a physician, geologist, and professor at the University of California, Berkeley and early California conservationist.
