London: Hutchinsin, 1954. Eighth impression, 1954. Hardback. [x], xv, 312pp. Green cloth with gilt to spine. Dustjacket. From 1906 - 1925 Colonel Fawcett made expedition after expedition, each more daring than the last. For months on end he plunged deeper into the world of the 'dark continent'. He was fascinated by the legends of lost cities and his research threw, at the time, clear light on the ethnological history of South America. This is a vivid and poignant story - often humorous. Fawcett was undoubtedly a brave man in the grandeur of the world he explored. Illustrated with black & white photographs together with decorations by Brian Fawcett. Book condition fair. Boards a little rubbed and soiled. Spine has a slight lean and the book is shaken but text block still securely in place. Text block edges a little spotted and soiled. Internally just the occasional light spotting or soiling. Dust jacket in poor condition. Generally rubbed and soiled. Edge wear and some minor loss to extremities of spine. Corners chipped and with some loss to lower corner of rear. Front flap separating from front. Jacket in a protective sleeve.
