About This Item

Great Barrington, MA: Penmaem/Busyhouse Publications, 1985. Very good + condition. This is the title page engraved by Michael McCurdy, to the book 'Face to Face, Twelve contemporary American Artists interpret themselves". The print depicts several of the artists at work in their studios with McCurdy the largest figure at the center and print making tools artfully arranged in the foreground.

McCurdy (1942 - 2016) was a noted American author and illustrator, recognized for his trademark b&w woodblock engravings. He was also the founder of Penmaen Press in Boston. 'Face to Face' was printed by Harold McGrath. The woodblocks were cancelled at the end of the press run. This print is scarce, as the original run was deemed too expensive to produce.

A fine copy handsomely mounted for presentation in a large maroon mat by the New York literary agent, with printed title on verso & gilt literary agent label. 6 x 9 1/4", mat 16 x 20"
