Toronto: Belford Brothers. 1876. First printing. Softcover. pp 35, sewn, in buff paper covers. Damp stain to front and rear cover; mostly erased pencil notes to last (blank) page; lacking the bottom 1.5 cm of backstrip; VG otherwise. A political comedy in six scenes. Watters p 431. Davin, an Irish-born lawyer, journalist, and politician, was the first MP for Assiniboia West, and was known as the voice of the North-West as the founder and editor of the Regina Leader. He was a Tory, a depressive, a bit of a drunk, and a suicide. He was also the author of the Report on Industrial Schools for Indians and Half-Breeds (known as the Davin Report), which he submitted to the Canadian government in 1879 - thus instrumental in the founding of the now notorious residential schools, and on the bright side, in the 1880s an advocate for franchisement of women. A scarce and fragile play. ; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall .
