Tan cloth (rebound with new endpapers.). 12 color illustrations by Arthur Rackam and 55 illustrations in black and white. Previous owner's bookplate on front endpaper. The first edition of the Fairy Tales of the Brother's Grimm illustrated by Rackham was published in 1909 with 40 color plates.

London: The Folio Society, 1996. Hardcover. Fair. Arthur Rackham. 4to. 325 pages. Hardcover bound in blue cloth with cover designs in gilt. The binding is worn and shows some pale spotting along the fore edges of the binding and along the edges and surface of the spine. There is some foxing along the outside edges of the spine, and the book is a little musty inside. The slipcase is sound but spotted, especially on the back panel, facing the fore edge of the book. The interior of the book is unmarked. Illustrated with color plates. Although the binding is solid, we are grading this book as Fair only, due to the spotting and musty interior. It is not in collectible condition.

London: Constable & Company Ltd, 1909 A near fine copy of the 1st enlarged limited edition of Grimm's Fairy Tales illustrated by Arthur Rackham. 750 copies were produced and signed by Rackham, of which this is copy number 490. Issued with tipped in colour frontispiece and 39 further tipped in colour plates and numerous black and white illustrations and designs. This copy has been recently rebound in full calf with raised bands, blind stamped designs and titles to spine, and blind stamped panelled design to the boards. Top page edges gilted; remainder untrimmed. The binding is in fine clean condition. New endpapers have been added. Contents are complete with bright clean uncreased plates. There is a slight paper ripple to the bottom corner of preliminary leaves, a couple of light creases to tissue guards, and a slight fold to the stock paper for the plate at p 236. The tissue guard to the plate at p 74 has a tiny top edge tear. There is the occasional mark: gutter pp xiv-xv; small brown mark appearing…
