England, 1917. Limited ed. Hardcover. Near Fine. 4 x 5 3/4 in. 34 pgs. This the American novelist, not the British politician. Buff paper boards with black and red printed paper label on cover. Signed with a dedication on ffep by Winston Churchill, as follows: 'To my friend George Barr McCutcheon, Winston Churchill', in black ink. The book is in a custom-made quarter red morocco slip-case, with scarlet cloth, with one raised band and gilt and brown decoration and lettering on the spine, with the date, 1917, at the base. Furthermore, the book has a protective wrap-around case of the same scarlet cloth over gray paper boards that slips inside the case. All is very finely wrought. The condition of the book is NEAR FINE ; with extremely clean and fresh covers and text, binding perfect, a cherished object that was well protected. The book was written by Churchill at the request of Bishop William Lawrence, and privately printed as a contribution to the church. At the pension fund dinner in behalf of the benefit, each guest was presented with a copy. George Barr McCutcheon (1866-1928) was an American novelist and playwright. His engraved bookplate, with his name on it, is on the front pastedown. A very rare book with a very fine signed dedication. Memoir. RGR.
