Description:
London: Printed for John Murray, 1815. 12mo, pp. xxvi, 419, [1, ads]. Original blue boards backed in grey paper, printed paper label to spine, edges untrimmed. Some damp-staining and foxing to flyleaves and first gathering. Boards a little worn, grey paper neatly renewed, preserving old label, now a bit chipped. Printed label of ‘Nivison & Forrest Booksellers, 10. North Bridge, Edinburgh’ to front pastedown, early signature to title-page. The third edition of the expansive collection of household advice, first printed in 1810, with instructions for everything from mixing cement to taxidermy. It is sometimes attributed to Maria Eliza Rundell (1745-1828), known for the hugely popular ‘Domestic Cookery’, which was also printed for John Murray in 1805. This copy originally sold in Edinburgh where William Blackwood was joint publisher.
