Early inked ownership inscription to FEP, without FFEP, several long vertical and horizontal tears to map, foxed. A Darton edition of Priscilla Wakefield's (1751-1832) popular fictional travelogue, 'adapted to the amusement and instruction of youth'. In their tour round the British Isles (not round what was later understood by the 'British Empire') the Middleton family, accompanied by their tutor, relate their experiences through numerous letters. At slough they stay with astronomer and scientific instrument maker William Herschel (1738-1822), and are privileged to observe the night sky through his telescope; and in Birmingham famed manufacturer Matthew Bolton (1728-1809) personally guide them around his Soho works.
