Dallas; (1936): The Turner Company. First Edition. Octavo. 173 pages. Along with James B. Gillett, Six Years with the Texas Rangers, 1875 to 1881 (Austin, 1921) and Albert Bigelow Paine, Captain Bill McDonald, Texas Ranger (1909) These are the most important early books on the Texas feuds, Douglas deals first with the Regulators and the Moderators, then, the Taylor-Sutton feud, The San Elizario War and finally, the last section with Horrell-Higgins Affair, the Mason County War and the Jaybirds and Woodpeckers. The frontispiece is of H. Clay Pleasants, the fighting district judge who helped establish law and order in DeWitt County. Bound in brown cloth lettered in black, spine lettering black, crease to spine two spot to bottom edge of upper board with a couple of small nicks, no foxing or toning, names or bookplates, in a black and white pictorial dust jacket with a few small chips to spine ends and bottom edge of front panel, little rubbing to rear panel. In all a handsome copy of this scarce work in dust jacket.[6-Guns #620].
