This is an ex-library copy of this collectible hardback. The book is tight and square. The Boards are very clean, with bumped corners, Baynes design to upper board. Front and rear hinges have hinge tape, although there is no evidence of cracking, I presume this was a precautionary measure. Spine is clean with minor bumping and rubbing to ends. Historic tape marks to front paste down, with contemporary pocket. FEP has single light stamp, tape off-settting, and remnant of lending slip. Half title page and two other free end papers have off setting. Frontispiece nice and vivid. Title page has two light grubby marks to foot. Copyright page has five stamps and small biro notation. Text block on the whole clean, and white, with the occasional mark of finger print. Text block edges have light toning and marking as to be expected. Book is still tight and fully readable. A good book that is close to Very good. The Jacket panels are clean and tidy, with light rubs to corners, and spine ends, light marking to edges and joints . There is a 20mm closed split to head of rear joint. The front flap shows the price of 7s 6d, with tape residue, and cut out to accommodate the library pocket, but dones not affect text.The rear flap has tape residue and 15mm tear to top edge. For grading accuracy books are photographed without a protective book cover. This book is fitted with a non adhesive archival quality book protector to make a quality addition to your collection. A solid ex-library example of this collectible title, a second printing of the first edition, with embellishments and full page frontispiece and a colour plate by Pauline Baynes. A nice affordable filler copy for a collector, that is readable and looks very nice on the shelf in the archival fitted cover.
