About This Item

Garden City, New York: Doubleday & Company, 1949. This Stated First Edition (and, unless it's stated, it's not) is in Fine, collectible condition with a Fine, unclipped dust jacket. (Click on photo.) This stirring biography tells of a Catholic priest who started a home for teenage misfits, street kids, and other unwanted boys in order to turn their lives around. The book is bound in a light green woven cloth with gilt titles against an elaborate blue-green border on the spine. This clean, bright copy has the signature of a former owner on the front free endpaper, as well as an erasure mark on the front endpaper (possibly from another owner?). The text pages are clean and white throughout, with no stains, tears, marks, or remainder marks. The illustrated endpapers are maps of Boys Town, Nebraska. The dust jacket still has the book's original $3.00 price. It is in Fine condition, but with light rubbing at the spine tips and corners. For those who warmly remember the movie of "Boys Town" with Spencer Tracy and Mickey Rooney, this volume would make a lovely collectible. The book measures 5 3/4 by 8 1/2 pages and includes 302 pages, with photo inserts.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Fine/Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
