New York: Harper and Brothers, 1933. Second printing. Hardcover. Good. Octavo. 350 pages, [1]. Light cloth hardcover with title on the front cover and the spine. No dust jacket. Decorated yellow end sheets. Some shelf wear and light fading to the cloth. The front board is slightly loose and starting to pull (front hinge not cracked). Previous owner's inscription on the right front flyleaf - Gordon (last name not legible) 2300 San Antonio St. Austin Texas." Signed by the author opposite the title page. The author wrote a lengthy inscription on page 3 - "My dear Gordon is the spring-board for this tale of up-state romance, yearning, Gemnslichleit?, Kunst, la vie, a la richardee le temps-perdu(?); and it goes to you with my affectionate greetings: Paul - Roswell 1933". A red book seller stamp is located on bottom left corner of the rear paste down - "El Chivato Books, Roswell, N.M.

Hardcover. 349pp. Octavo [21 cm] Light brown cloth over boards with gilt and black lettering and linear designs on the spine and front cover. Yellow and white patterned endpapers. Two pages advertising The Harper Prize Novel Contest at the rear. The spine ends and edges of the covers are mildly faded and bumped. There is a previous owner's bookplate on the front free endpaper, and the pages are browned. The price-clipped dust jacket is in good plus condition, with numerous small losses from the edges. A first edition of the author's first novel, and the 1933-1934 Harper Prize Novel.
