Widely taught throughout the 1950s and 60s, Caprio's FEMALE HOMOSEXUALITY, while far from sensational (though he does spend an entire chapter describing "authentic" and "inauthentic" lesbian bars), largely argued that lesbianism was at its core simply a form of sexual immaturity that could and should be outgrown. Though the book was in part inspired by Kinsey (to whom the book is dedicated and whose SEXUAL BEHAVIOR IN THE HUMAN FEMALE was published the previous year), Caprio lacks Kinsey's less judgmental and more rigorous approach.
