Charles Rayne Kruger (1922 - 2002) was a South African author and property developer. He was the son of an unmarried 17-year-old daughter of a British Army officer. As his father had disappeared, his mother married Victor Kruger, a Johannesburg estate agent. Kruger left a varied and interesting life in Johannesburg went to London with the intention of making his way as an author. This he succeeded in doing. His first novel Tanker, a story of the Merchant Navy (in which the author served), established him as a powerful writer. His second book, The Spectacle, confirmed his reputation, and following wrote a number of unusual and vigorous novels on a variety of subjects.
