New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1930. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good/Very good. Edited by Florence Milligan, Literary Secretary, with Complete Bibliography, Chronologic and Classified by Subject, 1877-1929, [and Supplementary Bibliography, 1930-1933]. Frontispiece portrait, with eight pp. photographs. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1930. First edition thus, earlier and less comprehensive editions of this work were issued in 1911 and 1916, respectively. Osborn (1857-1935) was a zoologist and paleontologist who served as curator of vertebrate paleontology at the American Museum of Natural History (1891-1910) and president of the Museum (1910-33). He is credited with revolutionizing museum displays and teaching while advancing the field of paleontology in the eye of the public. This work presents a detailed bibliography of Dr. Osborn's work, as well as a thoughtful statement of his philosophy of scientific research. Presentation copy, inscribed by Osborn on the front flyleaf, with a printed compliments card laid in. Osborn also wrote the recipient's name on the front panel of the dust jacket. Octavo. Original burgundy cloth binding, with gilt titles. Some mild foxing to the prefatory and concluding leaves and along the extremities. The dust jacket is a touch browned, more so along the spine and folds, with an occasional hint of edgewear; otherwise very good.
