London: Hutchinson. Good+ with no dust jacket. 1931. First Edition. Hardcover. In blue cloth boards with gilt titling to the spine - the blue is faded very patchily to the front and rear boards and lightened the base colour on the spine - but the gilt titling is clear. A little light shelfwear the the corners and head/tail of the spine, but a very sound copy with ALL hinges tight. The page fore-edges are dusty-toned with age, but no foxing. Internally a former owners' faded ink name and date to the top of the front free endpaper - "Chief Fire Officer F G Gardner (? ) , Borough of Pembroke Fire Brigade 1931". Some pale tan offsetting to the the blank free endpapers o/w VERY clean inside, with the odd mark as expected, but nothing intrusive, a small spot here and there - pretty negligible and a stain to the very tips of the bottom corners between pp 81-92, all very minor - overall inside a VG copy. 285pp, 34 b/w photo illustrations on 24 pages, including the frontispiece. A fascinating unofficial account/biography of the London Fire Brigade from 1878 to 1930 by Fire-Reporter Jack While with a (2 page) Foreword by Edgar Wallace. See Images. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
