Covers the period from the opening of Japan to the West in the 1850s to the beginning of 1964. The table of contents is sufficiently detailed to fulfill much of the function of an index. Topics include "general economic background at the time of the Meiji Restoration (1868), the creation of financial and securities institutions such as banks, stock exchanges, etc., the consolidation of capitalism and the establishment of policies, the First World War and the subsequent boom and depression, and a detailed analysis of conditions and policies which led to Japan's resurgence as an economic power after World War II.
