About This Item
Coleraine U.K.: Coleraine Printing Company, 1994. James Mayes was born at Finvoy, County Antrim, Northern Ireland in 1904, the son of Alex and Ellen Mayes, who were of hardy farming stock. In 1923, James, then a youth of 19, knew within his heart that somewhere in the world there was something better for him than the abject slavery his father endured at home. That resulted in him sailing for Canada, under an agricultural scheme originated by that fine country- a scheme tailor-made for Irish farm workers who quickly availed themselves of the opportunity. Light edgewear to book, pages white and apparent signature of author on title page dated January 1994. Four b/w photos in book.. Signed by Author. Soft Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8x6". History/genealogy.
