52 Queen Street, Edinburgh, 3 January 1866. 3 pp. 7 x 4 inches, black border, in good condition. Sir James Young Simpson (1811-1870), Scottish obstetrician, originated the use of ether in childbirth, and discovered the properties of chloroform (1847). He championed chloroformss use against religious and medical opposition until its use at the birth of Prince Leopold led to its general acceptance.
