San Francisco: Privately Printed [The Grabhorn Press], 1939. Limited Edition. Wraps. Very good +. One of 400 copies, quarto size, 39 pp. This catalogue comprises a selection of fine bookbindings that were shown at the Golden Gate International Exposition, a world's fair celebrating the completion of two bridges in San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge; the fair was held on Treasure Island, an artificial island built specifically for the exhibition.

Printed by the inimitable Grabhorn Press, the catalogue details bookbindings from around the world; in addition to the 400 copies printed, fifty additional copies were printed and distributed to members of the Roxburghe Club of San Francisco (per the bibliography).

Loosely laid in at the colophon is a small slip noting "Omissions & Additions", with three extra listings.

___DESCRIPTION: Blue paper wraps, cream paper spine label with red and black lettering and red ornaments, fore- and bottom edges uncut, title page with decorative border and ornaments in black, with red lettering, text in double columns, red ornaments and running decorative heads in black throughout, printer's device in red on the colophon, with small slip noting "Omissions & Additions" loosely laid in at the colophon; Oxford type, French moldmade paper, quarto size (11.5" by 8.5"), pagination: [i-vi] 1-32 [33], one of 400 copies, unnumbered.

___CONDITION: Almost near fine, with clean wraps, a strong, square text block, the interior is clean and bright, still with the loose "Omissions" slip, and entirely without prior owner markings; we are grading as VG plus due to the wraps, which show a few spots of soiling, overalll edge wear with a bit of paper loss at the head of the spine, sunning to the edges and spine; the interior truly near fine, with a few spots of soiling to the free endpapers and light offsetting from the red ink throughout.

___CITATION: Grabhorn Bibliography no. 316.

___POSTAGE:  International customers, please note that additional postage may apply as the standard does not always cover costs; please inquire for details.
