This is an original botanical watercolour painting of a Hydrangea painted by Lorna B. Kell. The internal mount dimensions are 330 x 475mm. "Lorna Beatrice Kell born in London 1914. Painter of still life and abstracts, printmaker and textile designer. She studied at Hornsey School of Art, 1930-3, her teachers including Russell Reeve, Frank Winter and Norman Janes. She joined Henry Lorraine Kell shortly after he began Lorraine Designs in 1935, married him and became sole proprietor in 1956. The firm specialised in commemorative scarves for Liberty of London, the Oxford Collection and others. Kell was elected to the Society of Graphic Artists in 1959, (an artist of repute, Kell, was President for eleven years. She saw the Society through some difficult times and helped to keep it well established at a time when [tradtional] art was often ridiculed by the public as conceptual art became the latest trend) Kell was a founder-fellow of the Society of Botanical Artists and a fellow of the Royal Horticultural Society, winning its Grenfell Medal. She produced botanical drawings for the Junior Encyclopaedia Britannica and showed at RA, RE, London Guildhall, Paris Salon and in the provinces. She Lived in Barnet, Hertfordshire. This particular painting, signed Lorna B Kell, but not dated. This is a good example of her work and shows her fluency and ability to capture the essence of the botanical subject, in this case a fine Hydrangea. (We have other paintings similar to this - sets of 2 and 3 look very well uniformly framed and hung together; we also work with very good local framers and can arrange to have the art framed at a reasonable price.). Fine Art Print.
