Fire and Flesh by Betty Henderson - 1928: A Woman's Testament

New York 1928 1st edition. Harold Vinal, LTD. Sm.8vo., 74pp., hardcover. VG, with a good and very hard to find dust jacket! The light blue boards are rubbed at the corners and there is a chip on the upper spine but have vibrant stars of silver on the front and back. The dust jacket is complete with some small chips at the corners and at the top and bottom of the spine.. This copy is very unique because it also has an inscription on the back board written upside down. "To Beatrice Harrison with my dearest love & memories of days gone by which can never be forgotten. Fondley, "Mother" Betty Henderson". The book was part of the collection of Harrison K. Ford, the Silent Film Star from the 1920's. He was married to Beatrice Prentice in 1909 and they soon separated and never divorced. Beatrice was not well known but had a history in her own right as an actress...Prentice was probably born in Sac County, Iowa[2] but had ties to a prominent New York City family whose members were listed in the "blue book" social register. The other Prentices objected when she entered the acting profession. She married the silent film actor Harrison Ford on March 29, 1909. Because of her family's objection to her marriage, the union was not discovered by newspapers until late August 1910. Prentice was independently wealthy; she owned a lily farm in Bermuda. She met Ford when both were in the Soldiers of Fortune company.

Harrison Ford was Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Ford began his acting career on the stage. He made his Broadway debut in 1904 in Richard Harding Davis's Ranson's Folly. He went on to appear in productions of William C. deMille's Strongheart; Glorious Betsy by Rida Johnson Young (the production lasted only 24 performances but the play was later adapted for an Oscar-nominated film of the same name); Bayard Veiller's The Fight (which quickly closed); Edgar Wallace's The Switchboard; Edward Locke's The Bubble; and Edgar Selwyn's Rolling Stones.
Ford turned to film beginning in 1915 and moved to Hollywood. He became a leading man opposite stars such as Constance Talmadge, Norma Talmadge, Marie Prevost, Marion Davies, Marguerite De La Motte and Clara Bow. Ford's film career ended with the advent of talkies. His final film, and only talkie, Love in High Gear, was released in 1932. He returned to acting in the theatre, and also directed productions at the Little Theater of the Verdugos in Glendale, California. During World War II, he toured with the United Service Organizations
