Fine minus book with slight shelf wear and touch of light soiling to tiny area front page edges. Oversize book approximately 11 inches tall by 7 inches wide. This is the lettered limited edition, J of 26 copies, bound in very dark blue leather with no jacket, as issued. Publisher's envelop lettered J laid-in with letter stating – Dear Collector, Contrary to our colophon page, this lettered state of Dark Rivers Of The Heart has been hand bound by Claudia Cohen in full Morocco leather with Fabriano Roma end-sheets and stamped in 22-carat gold. Enjoy, Charnel House. Signed on the limitation page by Koontz and Gervais. This copy housed in a Fine, blue drop-lid box custom made by bookbinder Mark Andersson, Panther Peak Bindery, Tucson. One of his business cards is laid-in.

First edition hardback, a Very Good copy with a long crease running down the middle part of the spine and traces of wear to cloth, front hinge just starting at bottom, slight bumping at head and heel and page blocks dusty, in a Very Good dust jacket with faint soiling to front and rear, a 1/2″ x 1/8″ chip at rear heel join, shallow chipping at head, and crease to top front corner. Inscribed twice by Smith (the first apparently with a fountain pen, the second with a ballpoint): "Clark Ashton Smith/Auburn, Cal/Nov. 27th, 1912" then "For Harry Rosenberry/with sincere compliments/of Clark Ashton Smith/Apr. 14th, 1961," which was exactly four months before his death. Collectible first edition of English essayist, poet and academic Arthur Christopher Benson's Basil Netherby, a collection of two posthumously published horror stories discovered by his brother Fred after A. C.'s death. In the context of his main body of work, Benson's two stories are joltingly anomalous, perhaps especially so given that his father was Edward White Benson (1829–1896), Archbishop of Canterbury. Scantily reviewed in its first appearance, "Basil Netherby" and its companion story, "The Uttermost Farthing" made little noise in British literature but through the years "Basil Netherby" especially has evolved into a work celebrated for its brilliance. Noted horror critic R. S. Hadji included Benson's "Basil Netherby" on a list of "unjustly neglected" horror books.
