ont> Chatto & Windus : London, 1890 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. First edition.. The first edition of Arthur Conan Doyle's novel about the cynical buisnessmen John and Ezra Girdlestone. The first edition of this work. 'The Firm of Girdlestone' is about father and son, John and Ezra, both cynical men who have a great aptitude for business. After a worry of bankruptcy, they embark on a mission to gain more money for the business. Arthur Conan Doyle is best known for his creation of the Victorian detective Sherlock Holmes. He was originally trained as a physician, which meant he had a thorough knowledge of the sciences for his novels. Some of his other non-Sherlock work includes 'The Lost World', 'Micah Clarke', 'The Stark Munro Letters', and 'Rodney Stone'. With thirty-two pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear, dated January 1890. Condition: In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Minor shelfwear to the boards, with on very light mark to the rear board. Light sunning to the spine and to the rear joint. A little light rubbing to the joints. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Hinges are starting but firm. Light offsetting to the recto to the front endpaper and to the verso to the rear endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with the odd spot throughout, mostly to the first and last few pages. Overall Condition: Very Good.
