Philadelphia: F. Nichols, 1808. First American edition. Binding rubbed and worn, repairs to spine; title stained, some foxing, contemporary review mounted on pastedown/From the Collection of Allan B. Kirsner, M.D. 8vo. xx, 474 pp. Nine engraved plates. Contemporary sheep, morocco lettering-piece. The two parts are divided between general and particular surgical subjects. Cooper was a member of the Royal College of Surgeons and author of 'Critical Reflections on the Cataract.' His 'Surgical Dictionary' went through many editions, and his 1840 book 'First Lines of Theory and Practice of Surgery' was the first to acknowledge that advanced melanoma was untreatable.
