Boston: Sherman, French & Company, 1911. First edition. One signature partly sprung covers soiled and somewhat rubbed, good.. 8vo, original boards with white cloth spine and tips. The poet's first book, an odd association copy, inscribed by Untermeyer around the time of publication: "To Hudson Maxim, hoping that here and there (especially here) a line will strike his fancy. . . . Louis Untermeyer, New Year, 1912." The recipient was a well-known American entrepreneur and inventor who, simultaneously with his rival brother, developed explosives and automatic weapons that had a devastiating impact during the First World War. Hudson Maxim' produced the first smokeless powder in America, which was put into use by the U.S. Army in 1901.
