London, United Kingdom: W Clowes & Son, 1839. Report commissioned by William IV shorly before his death and presented to Queen Victoria early in her reign. It led to 'The County Police Act 1839' (also known as The Rural Police Act) and was an Act of Parliament passed by the Parliament of the United Kingdom. The act enabled Justices of the Peace in England and Wales to establish police forces in their counties. Contents present types of crime and the crime figures, the existing force, and arguments for a paid constabulary. CONDITION Professionally reboud with Red Moire bds, Black Leather blind tooled spine and tips with 5 raised bands, new eps, pp xi 416 no fold out plan though it appears not to have been included in original binding. Internally a nice bright copy, original front blanks rather spotted with a closed tear to one and contemporary name, slight stain to bottom edge of the odd page. Overall a very nice copy.. First Edition. Half-Leather. Very Good/N/A. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
