Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine in protective Mylar. Ainslie Roberts (illustrator). 1st Edition. 2nd. Printing. Previous owners inscription.
This was the third of the Roberts/Mountford trilogy of myths of the Aboriginal First Nation people. It began in 1963 with an exhbition of Ainslie Roberts' remarkable paintings of central Australia, its people and stories. Part of the co-authorship of The Dreamtime", next "The Dawn of Time", (1968) followed by this volume "The First Sunrise" with 32 new paintings by Roberts based on First Nations People explaining the creation of the world with texts and interpretation by anthropologist Charles Mountford. Both men for years were very close to the people. Cultural ownership has shifted since then but it is a trilogy the publisher then could claim had no parallel in Australian literature.
