First-Year Latin; Preparatory to Caesar by Bennett, Charles E - 1957

Illustrator: Illustrated. preface by author, list of illustrations, rules of syntax, Caesar's Gallic War, Book II, general Latin-English vocabulary and English-Latin vocabulary. The text is illustrated with numerous black-and-white drawings within the text and between pages 207 and 209 there is a double page coloured map showing Gallia in time of Caesar. Green coloured cloth covered boards with black coloured illustrations to the front panel and gold coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. First published in 1909, a text on the beginning to learn Latin.  The book is showing some signs of age and use. Softening and rubbing of the back strip edges with bumping, rubbing and fraying of the book corners. The book edges shows some rubbing as does the panels. Light age toning of the text block edges and lighter age toning of the pages. Some ageing of the end pages with foxing. A previous owner has made some notes to the top edge of the front paste-down, in a blue coloured ink. The said same previous owner has made some blue coloured text to some of the text and has pinched the top right-hand corner, and bottom right-hand corner of some of the pages – 61 through to 68– for example.
