About This Item
Longmans, Green, and Co., London and Bombay, 1901. Eighth Impression. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. Two volumes (complete). Rebound for and by the Durban Club in half leather. Two stout, sturdy copies. Part of the Badminton Series of Sports and Pastimes conceived by the 8th Duke of Beaufort (whose children invented the game of badminton, at Badminton House, during the wretched winter of 1863; he also, in the manner only of a true aristocrat, is said to have presented Queen Victoria with evidence that he had a better claim to the throne than she; the Queen thanked him and threw the evidence into the fire). Volume I: Salmon and Trout. The leathers are worn about all edges, corners, seams, ridges. They are rubbed and worn from handling and shelving. The boards have some scuffing, wear, light marks. The boards are steady and sure. Marbled end papers. Durban Club ex-libris plate on the front pastedown. The contents are benign, even venerably avuncular. They have splashes or sprays or flushes of foxing. They are otherwise clean, clear, assured, very certain and conscientious, detailed and evocative. Volume II: Pike and Other Coarse Fish. The condition is as with volume I. A competent, companionable set of this classic set of books. fk. Our orders are shipped using tracked courier delivery services.
