Flight into Darkness (Flucht in die Finsternes, 1931) was Austrian author/playwright Arthur Schnitzler's last novel, published shortly before his death that same year. Schnitzler's works were usually sexually charged and controversial, particularly as a Jewish writer in an increasingly anti-semitic environment (his books were among those banned and burned by the Nazis). Schnitzler also had a medical degree and considerable practical experience in the field, and often worked psychological themes into his works. As such, Flight into Darkness takes a somewhat clinical but gripping tour of the mind of a man who fears he is going mad.
