Publication of 284 pages. The boards are a little shelf rubbed and edge worn. There are marks on the early and last pages, foxing around the block of the book and little within the body of the book. Green textured cloth with silver lettering to spine and front or top board. True first. Separate publication without Ship of the Line followed shortly later. These two books pus "The Happy Return" were the basis for the film that starred Gregory Peck and Virginia Mayo. Light spine lean and light foxing to outer page edges. Hinge starting at page 160. Price intact jacket has two small chips at head of spine and minor chip at head of front fold but otherwise quite nice. In mylar. . First U.K. Edition. Hardccover. Octavo (19 x 14cm), pp.304; [2]; 5-284; [6] blanks. Publisher's green cloth, titled in silver to spine and upper, green typographic dust-wrapper priced at 8/6. Contents clean with a few small spots to edges of text block, bookplate, jacket with light edge wear, lightly worn at crown, generally quite bright and fresh. The second and third Horatio Hornblower adventures.

Green cloth, lettered in silver. Two complete novels in the Horatio Hornblower series. SIGNED BY FORESTER on a Book Society "Flying Colours" bookplate which is mounted to the front pastedown. The book has a bump to the upper spine end. There is some light mottling to the front cover, at the upper front and also some to the rear. Light stains to the upper page edges and another to the fore edge, at the rear. Very tight. The dust jacket has chipping at the spine ends and corners. There are also some chips to the rear fore edge flap fold. Darkening to the spine. Also a small watermark to the title area on the spine. To the lower, front flap there is the correct price of 8/6 along with the statement, "NOT FOR GENERAL SALE". ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 304,284 pages; Signed by Author .

SIGNED by the author on a special Book Society bookplate designed by Rex Whistler. The third Hornblower novel published, and the eighth in series chronology, published together with the second. Along with "The Happy Return," the three form the basis for the 1951 film "Captain Horatio Hornblower," directed by Raoul Walsh, and starring Gregory Peck and Virginia Mayo. Very Good in a Very Good dust jacket. Ink notation and owner name to the bookplate on the front pastedown. Slight lean, with light foxing to the page edges. Jacket is lightly soiled, with chipping to the extremities and a few small closed tears.
