Eight pages of adverts at rear.Presentation copy from the author, inscribed on the front free endpaper: ''To Lady Horner with the devoted homage of Edgar Wallace, Mells. September 1932''. The recipient was a patroness of the arts whose manor house at Mells had been in the family since the dissolution of the monasteries (the story behind this was the possible inspiration for the nursery rhyme of ''Little Jack Horner''). The date in the inscription is problematical, as Wallace died in Hollywood in February of the same year. The handwriting is certainly very similar to Wallace's and I can only conjecture that that he left the book with Horner on a visit to Mells before going to the States, wrapped and ready to be opened on her birthday.Small stain to page 28. Faint coffee rings to covers. Spine a bit faded. Very good. No dustwrapper.
