Blue cloth binding with titles stamped in gilt on spine. xxx, 476 pp + 4 pp publisher's ads. Index. Presentation slip noting that book was sent with the author's compliments tipped in between front free endpaper and front flyleaf. Frazer is better known for his monumental work on comparative religion and mythology, The Golden Bough, but this work (a 476-page "abridgment" of the 3-volume 1918 first edition) focuses on just one text, The Old Testament, and its basis in ancient folklore. .
