February 1936 complete issue of magazine, profusely illustrated in color and black and white, 184pp, folio (14 x 11 1/4 inches), color pictorial paper wrappers as issued. Slanted spine with some rubbing, light soiling to front and back covers, worn edges, tiny chip to upper right corner of front cover, page 119/120 has been cut. Otherwise good condition. Many interesting articles in this beautiful publication, plus elegant color and black and white advertisements. Articles: Interstate Trucking, Palm Beach with color illustrations by J. W. Golinkin, this article juxtaposed with article "Family on Relief" about a family impoverished by the Depression; Gold: 1936; Doubleday, Doran & Co.; Jews in America; U.S. Gypsum, etc. Color ad for Chesapeake and Ohio Lines "To You from America's Sleepheart". Striking cover illustration of a Zeiss Mark projector by John A. Cook: "The first modern planetarium projectors were designed and built in 1924 by the Zeiss Works of Jena, Germany in 1924. Zeiss projectors are designed to sit in the middle of a dark, dome-covered room and project an accurate image of the stars and other astronomical objects on the dome." (Wikipedia). Founded by Henry Luce (who had, with partner Briton Hadden, founded Time magazine in 1923), Luce declared of Fortune magazine that "American business has importance - even majesty - so the magazine in which we are able to interpret it will look and feel important - even majestic." .
