About This Item
Kingston, Lewes, Lower Barracks; 1803-1808. 4 pp. 9 x 7½ inches, in good condition. General Sir William Augustus Pitt (c. 1728 - 1809) served in the Seven Years War, and was severely wounded and taken prisoner at the Battle of Kloster Kampen in 1760. In 1794 he was given the shore command of the Portsmouth defences, a post he retained until 1809. From a letter I have just recd. from Ensign Villiers of the New South Wales Corps, on board the Recovery at Portsmouth, I find Mr. Vernon the Taylor has taken out a writ against him for about £30 ...
