SUBTITLE: Written originally in French, and now translated into English by JOHN EVELYN, Esq; Fellow of the Royal Society. Edition Illustrated with sculptures. Whereunto is annexed, THE ENGLISH VINEYARD VINDICATED, by JOHN ROSE, now gardiner to his Majesty: with a tract titled VINTAGE by JOHN EVELYN, MAKING AND ORDERING OF WINES IN FRANCE, these 2 tracts on WINE are LACKING. THIRD EDITION BUT ACTUALLY THE FOURTH EDITION (according to Keynes - see below). Small 8vo, approximately 150 x 90 mm, 6 x 3¾ inches, engraved frontispiece plus 2 engraved plates of 3, a facsimile of the missing plate tipped in at page 135. Pages: [8],1-294; [16], some misnumbering but all catchwords correct, the dedication to Thomas Henshaw has John Evelyn's name printed at the end, followed by To The Reader. Contemporary full calf no title to spine. Binding rubbed and scuffed, front and rear endpapers and final leaf dusty, tiny repair to head of title page, 4 small repairs to 2 corners and 2 small holes, 1 affecting text, tiny ink stain to top margins of pages 12-26, 20 mm or 1 inch crack to head of upper hinge, covers still firmly attached, pale age-browning throughout and occasional small spot or stain, a good working copy.
