London: Chapman & Hall, 1878. First edition. Octavo. xiv, [2], 372, 32 [publisher's catalogue dated November, 1877] pp. plus eight full page illustrations. Publisher's plum cloth with frames in black on covers and gilt spine lettering, pale yellow endpapers. Hinges reinforced with light yellow paper. A very good and very clean copy. The author, a British officer looking for adventures, made his book particularly valuable by dealing in depth with the Mojave and other arid portions of the West. Howes C-105. Graff 566.
