No date. Ca. 1600.. Two woodcuts (each approximately 5 x 3 inches), hand colored, on single sheet 8 1/2 x 14 inches, single woodcut and text on verso. Faint damp stain to lower edge, a few light spots, overall very good condition. Beautifully designed and executed wood cuts of a corn husk and plant, showing flowers, roots. Coloring appears to be early hand color, simple and carefully done. Verso of page 114 from an unidentified old German language (fraktur) herbal, possibly Mattioli’s "Kreuterbuch ...." (Jacob Fischer, Frankfurt am Main, 1611) a German version of his "Pedacii Dioscoridis de materia medica libri sex" first published in Venice 1558. Verso includes a wood cut of Fcenograecum showing flowers and pods. .
