About This Item

Ayres has done some good writing and talking since his Fugitive Days BUT Fugitive Days is how not to do book. At the time Weather faction formed SDS had 500 chapters at colleges around the US. Ayres convinced 300 people to come to Chicago for the Days of Rage, where the Chicago Police beat the shit out of them.
Ayres, whose Father was Chair of the power company in Chicago, is an example of the problem of elitist leadership. Most of the SDS chapters were not at Elitist colleges and most of the demonstrations against the Vietnam War occured at Colleges in the Western USA. Removed from contact with most of SDS members, Ayres and his group turned inward, to a small group where class background, ie money mattered. SDS, in tatters, left no real effective opposition to the Nixon Presidency. the US government spent a billion dollars in 2016 dollars to destroy SDS. the chair of the chapter at university of Colorado, at one time had 4 people following him, at a cost to the taxpayers of $32,000 a month. Informers were paid 3x the 40 hour work week salary. The Weather underground was ineffective and more of use to the government to harass and prevent effective organizing. Read this book so you don't make mistakes. the book has been read but the text is unmarked. The Dj has a tear at the bootom front spine. Bottom of spine on dj shows wear. Learn your history., you don't know where you're going unless you know where you've been.
