About This Item

Collins, London 1969-2004 All first editions (first printings). 8vo. Original publisher's cloth with dust wrappers. The top edge of half a dozen volumes very lightly spotted or speckled, and with just a touch of light bruising to the backstrip ends of one or two volumes. Some spotting to the rear free endpaper of a single volume ('The Ionian Mission'). Former owner name inkstamped to the head of the front free endpaper of one volume ('Post Captain'), and a former owner bookplate to another ('The Nutmeg of Consolation') but these aside no former owner names, plates, inscriptions or ownership marks. 'HMS Surprise' exhibits a small area of scuffing to the tip of the front free endpaper where former dealer pencilled pricing has been erased, and again to the head of the front pastedown, presumably for the same reason. Three consecutive volumes are printed on slightly lesser-quality paperstock and some nigh-on inevitable tanning has resulted (the three in question being 'The Far Side of the World', 'The Reverse of the Medal' and 'The Letter of Marque'). A very good set in dust wrappers, two of which are price-clipped and one more clipped and re-priced by the publisher. The dust wrapper of 'Master and Commander' is just a little dust soiled and edgeworn, with a touch of fading to the spine panel; two or three further wrappers are very lightly rubbed at the spine ends and exhibit a touch of dust soiling, light rubbing and spine panel fading (but 'The Far Side of the World', a volume so prone to spine panel fading is in excellent crisp state). Overall a very good set in very good, sometimes fine dust wrappers. Also included is the final unfinished novel, issued posthumously and comprising a partially corrected typescript of the first three chapters, as well as a facsimile of the handwritten manuscript which continues beyond the end of the typescript. The set weighs over 11kg unpacked, and so a postage excess will apply for overseas orders.. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good.
