About This Item

London: Weidenfeld & Nicolson, 1972. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. First UK Edition. Publisher's faux-marble boards with author and publisher in black and title in red on the spine. PUBLISHER'S FILE COPY STAMPED WEIDENFELD LIBRARY and with the number 1909 neatly written in biro on the front free end-paper. Overall a lovely, clean near fine copy. The D/W is also near fine (or better) with NO FADING TO THE FUGITIVE RED SPINE WHICH IS NOTORIOUSLY PRONE TO FADING. The D/W has a tiny bit of surface loss at the head of the spine although the D/W is all there. There is a tiny label with the number 1909 being the publisher's internal reference number to the spine. Booker Prize winning novel. Scarce in this lovely, un-faded condition. Scans invited. A much nicer copy than normally seen.

Synopsis

John Peter Berger is an English art critic, novelist, painter and author. His unsettling and powerful novel, G , won the Man Booker prize in 1972. The setting is before the First World War in Europe. The protagonist, G., is the rich son of an Italian canned fruit retailer who is a wild Casanova-type lover of women. He gradually comes to a realization after many misadventures. The book has been described as a rich and pleasurable reading experience and will appeal to those interested in the author’s beautiful poetic imagery as well as the intellectual stimulation this novel offers.
