Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 1908. First edition thus. Softcover. Fine. Three softcover reprints from 'Modern Philology' and represent the first separate edition of Sommer's transcription and analysis. Parts I & II (1907) are the first publication of the Galahad and Perceval sections of the Tristan Ms. in the British Museum, and parallel Malory's 'Morte Darthur', Books XI and XII. The third reprint (1908) contains Sommer's analysis and the final part of the Ms. As Sommer points out, he began to suspect the existence of two Galahads while he was editing the Vulgate version, but it was only later that he pieced things together, noting that Malory also was aware of two Galahads, and suppressed one of them. The wrong one, Sommer says. So these studies basically form a supplement to Sommer's edition of the Vulgate, originally printed over 15 years earlier in 1889-91. Note: these are original editions printed by the University of Chicago in 1907-1908 and not modern reprints. Text of the Ms. is in French; Sommer's analysis in English. Two of the three issues bear Sommer's signatures: "With H. Oskar Sommer's compliments." Fine copies.
