Contents clean and unmarked with a few loose pages at front of Vol. I. 1191pp. featuring 100 full page hand colored engravings of characters and events from Italy's history. All are clean and unmarked with not chips or tears. A few show minor foxing along edge not impacting plate. Published in 1856. A true treasure. Lanquage: Italian. All items carefully packed to avoid damage from moisture and rough handling.

Firenze (Florence): David Passigli, 1846. First Edition. Hardcover. Nearly all tissue guards present, occasional light foxing to margins of some plates but overall bright and clean. The bindings have some rubbing and light edgewear, the second volume with a partial split to the front joint and tear near the top of the spine. Very Good. Two large quarto volumes (10" x 13-1/2") bound in contemporary full dark green morocco leather with raised bands and stamped gilt lettering to the spines, the front and rear covers with elaborate ornamental designs and red morocco onlays. Illustrated with a printed color extra title page and 100 hand-colored plates depicting major figures and events of Italian history, the text pages framed with ornate designs printed in various colors. A handsome production with bright, colorful plates.

Firenze: David Passigli, 1845-6. First Edition. Full Morocco. Near Fine. Uncommon title with 100 bright and hand-colored plates depicting major figures and events of Italian history. Each plate accompanies generally eight to twelve text pages relating a tale or biography of the figure(s) depicted. The articles are ornamented with lovely ornate borders which vary in color and design from one piece to the next. The work itself was issued at a time when Italian consciousness was finally being roused with the first rumblings for unification, which would finally come to fruition two decades later, but it is significant that in this work the heros and heroines highlighted come from all over the Italian peninsula, including Naples, Venice, etc. then separate kingdoms, principalities, or under Austrian or Church control.
