Front hinge cracked open. Tissue protecting the frontispiece portrait is foxed. Title page lightly foxed and toned. Inscription on front blank end sheet - "James R Dubose Washington Geo 1873." James R. Dubose name is stamped on the title page.

Black cloth hardcover ruled in blind on the covers with gilt illustration on the front. Gilt title on the spine. Binding is in poor condition. Front cover and the spine have been glued. The back cover is detached. The right front flyleaf, front blank end sheet, and title page are partially stuck to the front board. Internal contents are lightly toned. Text block is uniform with no loose or missing pages. Poor to fair condition.

Book is slightly bowed and forward leaning with mild rubbing and scuffing overall. Spine has light sunning with soft cracking and crushing to ends. Lettering remains bright and clear.
