[Originally and first published (US) HB+dw/dj by Whitman Publishing Company, Racine, 1951.This first (UK)12mo HB,no dw/dj - as issued,1st edn,and authorized edition,by arrangement with original publisher,and published circa early 1950s.] FINE-.No owner inscrptn.Bright,crisp,clean,sharp-cornered,glossy laminated,publisher's wrap-around colour pictorial artwork illustrated paper-covered boards with black-outlined red+blue lettering to front and black,black-outlined red+blue lettering to non-faded spine/backstrip; with negligible shelf-wear,bumping, creasing to edges and corners - no major nicks,tears or splits present - but both bds with superficial indent impressions.Clean,b/w illustrated endpapers and both hinges solid and sound and without any nicks, tears,splits or cracking.Top+fore-edges lightly toned from dust-soiling but without foxing/spotting; contents bright,tight,clean with minor page-edge toning,near pristine - text body virtually foxing-free,solid and sound - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners, appears unread - apart from my own collation.UK,12mo HB,no dw/dj - as issued,1st edn,5-248pp [paginated] includes separate contents+ illus lists/tables,XXI (21) chapters,20 full-page b/w illustrations by Peter Alvarado,interspersed throughout the text and the book,plus [unpaginated] half-title+title pages.One of 8 titles in this series to date (1950s).See also my book IDs' rja898820,rja898920,rja899020 and rja899220 for other titles from the same series.
The early 50s was the time for the dawning of the TV western,Gene Autry,Range Rider,Annie Oakley,Hop-along Cassidy,Kit Carson,Cisco Kid and the others which slowly matured into the so-called adult TV western of the late 50s early 60s; Gunsmoke,Cheyenne,Sugarfoot, Restless Gun and dozens more.
Gene Autry [1907-1998] was an American performer who gained fame as 'The Singing Cowboy' on the radio,in movies,on television and in live theatre and rodeo performances.His career spanned some 70 years in the entertainment industry.Recording and writing hundreds of songs; he was the most successful singing cowboy, who also completed 93 movies and starred in 91 television productions.Autry was ranked among the most celebrated film stars and for years was considered the most popular Western film star.By 1940,Gene Autry was the 4th highest grossing box office attraction according to Theater Exhibitors of America.
